Landing at Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side? How to get to Kadıköy, Taksim and Sultanahmet by M4 metro, Havabüs, taxi or private transfer, with 2026 prices and journey times.
Sultanahmet is about 48 km from Istanbul Airport (IST). The quickest door-to-door option is a taxi or private transfer, about 50 to 60 minutes outside rush hour. The cheapest is the Havaist HVL-11 bus at 420 TL, or the metro and tram with two changes.
| Option | Price (Oct 2026) | Time | Changes | With luggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | from €46 per car, fixed | 50–60 min | None | Easy |
| Taxi | metered, about 2,200 TL plus tolls (estimate) | 50–60 min | None | Easy |
| Havaist HVL-11 bus | 420 TL per person | 75–120 min | None, then a walk | Fine |
| Metro M11 + M2 + tram T1 | about 100–150 TL per person | 90–110 min | 2 or more | Hard |
Havaist is the official airport coach. Line HVL-11 runs from IST to Sultanahmet for 420 TL per person (fare tariff published September 2026). Buses leave from level −2, the transportation floor below arrivals, and you can pay by credit card or QR code. The bus stops near the Old City, so expect a short walk with your bags to most hotels.
The M11 line runs from the airport to Gayrettepe. Change there to the M2 towards Yenikapı, then take the T1 tram to Sultanahmet. You need an Istanbulkart; M11 fares depend on the number of stations, from 34 TL up to 66.54 TL, plus the standard 42 TL for each following ride. It is the cheapest option but involves stairs and two changes, which is hard with large suitcases. The line has occasional planned closures, such as the one in June 2026, so check before you fly.
Taxis wait outside arrivals exits 9 and 13. Under the tariff in force since 20 July 2026, a standard taxi starts at 71.94 TL and charges 47.92 TL per km. For the 45–48 km trip to Sultanahmet that is roughly 2,200–2,400 TL on the meter, plus motorway tolls. This is our estimate, not an official fare. Turquoise taxis cost about 15% more and black taxis about 70% more, according to the airport.
A private transfer has a fixed price per car, agreed when you book, with tolls, parking and waiting included. Your driver tracks your flight, waits for you at the meeting point (at IST: Exit 13, by the 3E sign) and drives you to your hotel door. With Istanbul Airport Pickups an Economy car to Sultanahmet starts at €46 for up to 3 passengers; a van for up to 7 people starts at €64. Between 15:00 and 19:00, peak-hour pricing applies.
Many international flights land between midnight and 05:00. Metro service at that hour is limited, so the practical choices are a taxi, a Havaist bus where a night trip is scheduled, or a pre-booked transfer.
About 48 km by road. The drive takes 50 to 60 minutes outside rush hour and can take 90 minutes or more at peak times.
The metro (M11, M2 and T1 tram) with an Istanbulkart, at roughly 100–150 TL per person in 2026. The Havaist HVL-11 bus costs 420 TL and has no changes.
Yes. Havaist line HVL-11 runs directly from the airport to Sultanahmet. It leaves from level −2 below arrivals.
With Istanbul Airport Pickups, from €46 per car in Economy for up to 3 passengers, fixed at booking, including tolls and 60 minutes of free waiting.
Prices change often in Istanbul. Fares from third parties are for guidance; our own transfer prices are confirmed when you book.
Since 20 July 2026 a standard Istanbul taxi costs 71.94 TL to start plus 47.92 TL per km, with a 230 TL minimum. From Istanbul Airport to Taksim (about 42 km) that is roughly 2,100 TL on the meter, plus tolls. Turquoise and black taxis at the airport cost more.
| Taxi type | Starting fee | Per km | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (yellow) | 71.94 TL | 47.92 TL | 230 TL |
| D-segment and electric | 82.73 TL | 55.10 TL | n/a |
| UKOME converted | 93.52 TL | 62.29 TL | n/a |
| Luxury | 122.30 TL | 81.46 TL | 400 TL |
The tariff was set by Istanbul's transport authority (UKOME) and applies from 20 July 2026. Bridge and motorway tolls are added on top.
At the airport you will see three kinds of taxi at the ranks outside arrivals exits 9 and 13. According to Istanbul Airport, turquoise taxis charge about 15% more than the base taxi and black taxis about 70% more. Check which one you are getting before you get in.
These are our estimates using the standard tariff and typical road distances, without tolls or traffic waiting time:
| To | Distance | Standard taxi (estimate) | Private transfer, Economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taksim | 42 km | about 2,100 TL | €42 |
| Sultanahmet | 48 km | about 2,370 TL | €46 |
| Kadıköy | 55 km | about 2,710 TL | €55 |
Transfer prices are per car for up to 3 passengers and include tolls. Peak-hour pricing applies to IST pickups between 15:00 and 19:00.
A taxi is fine for a short trip with light luggage. For the long airport run, a fixed price removes the uncertainty of traffic and tolls, and a driver waiting at the exit with your name saves the queue at the rank.
About 2,100 TL on the standard meter for roughly 42 km, plus tolls (our estimate based on the July 2026 tariff).
Many do, but not all. Ask before the trip and carry some Turkish lira.
Outside the arrivals floor, at exits 9 and 13.
No. Bridge and motorway tolls are added to the metered fare.

Choose Istanbul Airport (IST) if you are staying on the European side (Taksim, Beşiktaş, Şişli, Sultanahmet). Choose Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) if you are staying on the Asian side (Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Ataşehir). Both are about 40–50 km from the centre. IST is the hub for Turkish Airlines; SAW is the main base of Pegasus.

Since October 2022 the M4 metro reaches Sabiha Gökçen and runs to Kadıköy in about 52 minutes. Havabus coaches go to Kadıköy (227 TL, about 60 minutes) and Taksim (about 90 minutes), with extra night trips. Taxis and private transfers wait outside international arrivals.
IST has a single terminal for domestic and international flights and handled about 84.5 million passengers in 2025. The M11 metro and Havaist buses leave from below the arrivals floor, taxis from exits 9 and 13. Our drivers meet you at Exit 13, by the 3E sign.
Two passenger airports: Istanbul Airport (IST) on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side. The old Atatürk Airport no longer has passenger flights.
They are similar: about 48 km from IST and about 50 km from SAW. Traffic and the time of day matter more than the distance.
Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), about 37 km away and linked by the M4 metro.
Istanbul Airport (IST) is the Turkish Airlines hub. Pegasus mainly uses Sabiha Gökçen (SAW).
Prices change often in Istanbul. Fares from third parties are for guidance; our own transfer prices are confirmed when you book.
Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) are about 80 km apart. By car the drive takes 80 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic. The direct Havaist HVL-10 bus costs 530 TL and takes about 2 hours. Leave at least 4 to 5 hours between flights.
The two airports sit on opposite sides of the Bosphorus. The road route is about 78–84 km and crosses one of the bridges. Expect around 80 minutes outside rush hour, and up to 2 hours or more on weekday evenings.

| Taxi | about 3,800–4,100 TL plus tolls (estimate) | 80–120 min |

HVL-10 runs directly between IST and SAW. The fare is 530 TL per person (tariff published September 2026) and the trip takes about two hours. It is the cheapest way, but the bus does not wait for delayed flights.
A private transfer from IST to SAW with Istanbul Airport Pickups starts at €67 in Economy for up to 3 passengers. Your driver follows your arriving flight, waits up to 60 minutes free and takes you straight to departures at the other airport. Peak-hour pricing applies to pickups at IST between 15:00 and 19:00 and at SAW between 14:45 and 21:00.

After landing at Istanbul Airport (IST) you pass passport control, collect your bags on the arrivals floor and walk through customs. Taxis wait at exits 9 and 13, Havaist buses and the M11 metro leave from below arrivals, and an Istanbulkart for public transport costs 165 TL. If you booked a transfer with us, your driver waits at Exit 13 by the 3E sign.
Citizens of many countries, including most EU countries and the UK, can visit Turkey without a visa for short stays; travellers from other countries apply for an e-Visa online. Use only the official site, evisa.gov.tr, and check the current rules for your passport on the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website (mfa.gov.tr) before you travel. Your passport should be valid well beyond your stay.

Istanbulkart is the rechargeable card for metro, tram, bus and ferries. The card costs 165 TL (not refundable) and a standard ride costs 42 TL (2026 prices). Buy and top it up at the yellow machines in the arrivals hall and at stations. One card can be shared by several people travelling together.
Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Istanbul. Exchange offices in the city usually give better rates than at the airport, so change only a small amount on arrival. An eSIM bought before you travel is the easiest way to have data as soon as you land; free Wi-Fi is also available in the terminal.
If you booked with Istanbul Airport Pickups, your driver tracks your flight and messages you on WhatsApp when you land. Walk out through Exit 13: our team waits by the 3E sign with your name. The first 60 minutes after landing are free, so take your time at passport control and baggage claim.
It depends on your passport. Many nationalities, including most EU citizens and the UK, can visit visa-free for short stays; others apply for an e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr. Check mfa.gov.tr for your country.

At Istanbul Airport, go out through Exit 13: our team waits by the 3E sign with your name.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) is on the Asian side of Istanbul, about 37 km from Kadıköy and 48 km from Taksim. The M4 metro reaches Kadıköy in about 52 minutes for 42 TL with an Istanbulkart, Havabüs buses go to Kadıköy and Taksim, and a metered taxi starts at 71.94 TL plus 47.92 TL per km. With Istanbul Airport Pickups an Economy car to Taksim or Sultanahmet costs a fixed €50, and our 3E team waits inside the TÜRSAB building opposite column 5.
Sabiha Gökçen is Istanbul's second airport, in Pendik on the Asian side. It is the main base of Pegasus Airlines and many low-cost carriers. Kadıköy, Üsküdar and Ataşehir are close; Taksim, Beşiktaş and the old city of Sultanahmet are on the European side, so every road trip there crosses the Bosphorus by bridge or the Eurasia Tunnel.

The M4 line has run from Kadıköy to Sabiha Gökçen since October 2022. The station is below the terminal. Trains run roughly every 5 minutes from about 06:00 to midnight and a ride costs 42 TL with an Istanbulkart. For the European side, change to the Marmaray at Ayrılık Çeşmesi. It is the cheapest way into the city if you travel light.
Havabüs coaches leave from in front of the terminal for Kadıköy and Taksim. They are cheaper than a taxi, but the trip to Taksim crosses the Bosphorus and can take well over an hour at rush hour.
Under the Istanbul taxi tariff in force since 20 July 2026, a standard taxi starts at 71.94 TL and charges 47.92 TL per km, with a minimum fare of 230 TL. Turquoise and black taxis cost more. Bridge and tunnel tolls are added to the meter, and the price grows in traffic.
A fixed-price car makes most sense when you land late at night, travel with children or a lot of luggage, or are going to the European side, where the metro needs a change of trains and a taxi's meter keeps running in bridge traffic. The price is per car, so for three or four people it often costs about the same as separate public transport tickets plus a taxi from the station.
About 48 km by road, usually 60 to 75 minutes and up to two hours at rush hour, because the route crosses the Bosphorus.
Yes. The M4 line runs from the airport to Kadıköy in about 52 minutes. A ride costs 42 TL with an Istanbulkart.
